Extremely rare and very unusual
Lot 727
CYPRUS. Salamis. Euelthon (?), circa 530/15-480. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 11.11 g). ๐ ๐ „๐ ณ-๐ ๐ ฐ๐ š ('[E-u-fe-le-tho-ne]' in Cypriot syllabic script) (?) Ram recumbent left. Rev. Ankh-like symbol with ๐ ž ('pa' in Cypriot syllabic script) in center within incuse square. Cf. Heritage 231939 (2019), 64123 (with additional Cypriote letter in the right reverse field perhaps obscured by the double strike on our coin?). Extremely rare and very unusual. The obverse struck somewhat off center and the reverse double struck, otherwise, very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

We have been assigned this unusual piece associated with Euelthon; however, the inscription is difficult to read, and the typical sprays of leaves in the corners of the reverse incuse, commonly found with this king, are missing.
